Can you feel the gentle return of the tide? Liquid silk pouring in all around, holding us within the greater ocean that is somewhere in a sensory field beyond our immediate biopsychic membrane...
Cancer New Moon, matriarch of the tides, navigates, holds steady in the ebbs and flows. Sometimes an anchor, sometimes a float. Rolls with the surf and the undertow. Tumbled around, protected, oriented to points beyond up or down, a cosmonaut of the seas, traveling decisively where the currents take her.
She arrives, sand in all the crevices, breather of air and water, poised and ready wherever she lands. We behold her, seemingly clunky in her hardened shell on land, a fortress of stillness, yet swift when needed. How she moves! Puzzling, looking all forward charge, she quickly slips sideways and at unpredictable angles, inspiring chaos, surprise, confusion and a greater instantaneous awareness of our own vulnerable fleshy toes in proximity.
Yet this Great Mother, standing in the strength of her ancient lineage, is saddled with collective resources gathered through eons, reminds of us the importance of innovative and rebellious movement. On the one hand, for the needs of survival, on the other to be prolific and generate abundance.
In this expanse, our ego shells can feel fragile and our small selves cower within. We have choices here...to merely imitate the elder crab, making our shells appear sturdier than they are, perhaps going on the attack or the defensive, or to run off in any and every direction. How though, can we make the choices towards wisdom, the discernment that happens in the moments of surveying the field for danger and opportunity? Must we face and heal old wounds or learn how to live with the damage incurred? Are those the only choices? Is there infinitely more available to us if we decide to move differently with these burdens?
Cancer New Moon draws us in, beckoning with menacing claws, and once we accept, we are gifted the soft, sweet, tender inner truth of Great Mother Crab. She is a cosmic soul, a wanderer of the astral realms too. She calls our spirits into a time of reflection, a void of the all possible. Here we can fully review and revision these beliefs we hold in our own gripping gross-motor claws, meet the surf of the greater potential and see what remains after a few tumbles.
You know what the claw holds, that doesn't slip away? Essence. We must learn to stop trying to hold all the details and get lost in the control of fine-motor finite matters. What place does that even have in the infinite universe? Now is not the time for sifting and sorting. This is the time to get tossed around a bit and know, trust that it is not our work to contain and maneuver or strategize. This is the time that we trust our well-honed instincts, our ancestral gifts, trust that we know how to move with and leverage momentum, that we give ourselves over to a bigger tide, strong in our abilities and nimble in our ability to read and respond to the shifts in the currents and thermals on their way through.
This is a time to sink in and remember our power, to move in transformative waters empowered and agile. We're going to feel clunky at times, might meet a few large rocks or adversaries. Yet we keep on. Time and time again, we are protected, loved, and nurtured unconditionally in the cycle of the Great Mother, Cancer New Moon.
